ecommerce site designWow! I just came across this site through a Google ad when I did a search for “ecommerce software” and was shocked to find no pricing or no easily visible call to actions to get more info. They definitely push their video through a bright orange button that catches your eye but there’s no simple way to get more information other than clicking the contact button at the very top of the page. The Google ad drove me directly to their ecommerce page which is good but this page should of had a few easy ways for me to find out more about the product other than watching a video. The user also needs a way to learn more and should not be prompted to download a feature guide which is what they have in place. This site seems to be run by a decent size company who spent probably over 6 figures to build this site but it’s lacking some very basics. There’s also a list of data sheets which is fine but these pages could of been built in html and then the user could have the option to download the page or printing the page(s). So I was able to find out after downloading a 17 page PDF and running a search on what I was looking for but will the average user go through this many steps to find these answers? Probably not. You have less than a minute to capture the users attention and in most cases under 20 seconds. I actually stayed on much longer due to the point that I was shocked that there wasn’t an easy way to find out more!!

Well I just ordered pizza from Domio’s Pizza and did it without having to call anyone. I went to the Domino’s site and clicked “order” and was able to build my own pizza and order it within a few minutes. The process was very simple. A 4 year old could order pizza from Domino”s online if they had their parents credit card and permission. My favorite part of the ecommerce experience was the pizza tracker. You get to track your order in real time. So you can see the order placed and who took the order in the store and who’s prepping the pizza. As I write this now I see that Cristian put our pizza in the oven at 12:01pm. The pizza tracker shows the following: order placed, prep, bake, box, delivery.

It was also fun building the pizza and seeing what it would look like with the differnt toppings. They also had a pop up box try and upsell you as you place your order. It worked on me today so I also ordered some buffalo wings. On the pizza tracker page they also have you rate the service, and ask you some questions about valentines day (collecting helpful data to market to me in the future).

See below for some screen shots of the order. I give this online ecommerce experience an A+. This might change if my order is late or incorrect. 😉build your pizzapopup to upsellpizza tracker

google paid searchJust thought I’d write a quick blog on my online experience tonight with VistaPrint. I needed to order some t-shirts for our website video marketing team that is going out shooting videos for emarketed clients and was in a hurry to get something cheap and fast. So I Googled “tshirt logo” and found VistaPrint which I’ve used before. They had the #2 position for the paid sponsor spot. They now print on pretty much anything you can think of.. So I went through the process of uploading the emarketed logo and editing the text on the back and had custom t-shirts ordered within 20 minutes. Wow! The editor was very easy to use and I experienced no problems throughout the process. And the checkout was painless although they try and up sell you on 20 or so other items which I expect them to do so it was no problem. Once again VistaPrint came to the rescue. I highly recommend them for businesses that are getting off the ground and need some promotional material. In the beginning you really need to watch your expenses and I guess this goes for us as well seeing as how we’ve been in business for over 10 years. In my early days I remember spending 300 to 400 on some polo shirts for a business I ran before emarketed. I used a few of these shirts but a majority just sat in my closet and eventually made it to Goodwill. This money should of been used more wisely!
